Soup is undoubtedly one of the most loved foods by cultures across the globe, throughout the course of human history. They can be made with just about any ingredients, can feed groups both large and small, and bring a helping of comfort year-round. Many soups are also associated with healing benefits. Whether it’s soothing a cold or flu with chicken soup, rebuilding immunity with bone broth, or detoxing with veggie-only soups, there’s a soup for every body and every season. Though soup is a long-standing nourishing tradition, exciting and innovative soup trends are on the rise.

Here are 9 of our favorite soup trends:
.Bottled soup. What could be easier than a satisfying ‘grab-and-go’ bottled soup detox day? Get inspired, check out our friends at Splendid Spoon.
.Chilled Soup. Think watermelon gazpacho soup for breakfast, creamy cucumber soup for lunch and herbed asparagus soup for dinner. Look to chilled soup for a simple, refreshing and healthy meal all summer long!
.‘Homemade’ helpers. You don’t have to be a culinary genius to whip a wholesome soup at home thanks to the crockpot and a host of available supermarket assists. Look for pre chopped vegetable and herb packs in the produce section and organic dry, whole food mixes in the soup aisle.
.Probiotic and prebiotic benefits. Combining a probiotic soup base like miso and prebiotic ingredients like onions and garlic checks off your daily gut-boosting needs in one bowl.
.Vegan bone broth. Vegans and vegetarians don’t have to miss out on all of the benefits of bone broth, thanks to mineral-rich ingredients like seaweeds, unrefined salts and spices.
.Soup as a digestive healer. All eyes are on soup as one of the top foods for healing leaky gut and other digestive disturbances.
.Soup bars/restaurants. Soup-only bars and restaurants are no longer staples in urban neighborhoods and ‘90s sitcoms (who remembers the infamous ‘Soup Nazi’ Seinfeld episode?). The popularity of these specialty eateries can now be found in cities, suburbs, and small towns alike, making the delicious and nutritious comforts easily accessible on-the-go.
.Bone broth. Bone broth is a stock made by boiling bones and other non-edible animal parts along with vegetables, herbs, and other seasonings, and then reducing the mixture to a thicker consistency. It’s made a resurgence into mainstream diets because it’s not only comforting and delicious, but it’s also known for its ability to strengthen the gut, boost immunity, and build healthy skin from within with a healthy dose of minerals, collagen, and essential fatty acids.
.Soup-specific health and cookbooks. Though soup-specific recipe books are nothing new, we’ve noticed a significant increase in books focusing on specific health benefits associated with soup. There are so many possible combinations of nutrient-rich vegetables, healthy fats, proteins, and medicinal herbs that it’s possible to use food as medicine for just about any condition. We love our friend, Dr. Kellyann Petrucci’s New York Times bestselling book, Dr. Kellyann’s Bone Broth Diet*.
